Research overview

Kisspeptin-10 is a synthetic decapeptide, composed of ten amino acids. It represents the C-terminal sequence and the minimal, fully active fragment of the larger, naturally occurring kisspeptin peptides (such as Kisspeptin-54) that are encoded by the KISS1 gene.

As the core functional unit, its mechanism of action is to serve as a potent agonist for the kisspeptin receptor, KISS1R. By binding to these receptors on hypothalamic neurons, Kisspeptin-10 powerfully stimulates the release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). This stimulation of GnRH, in turn, drives the pituitary gland to release Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), making Kisspeptin-10 a direct and primary driver of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis.

Due to its well-defined structure and potent activity, Kisspeptin-10 is frequently used in clinical and preclinical research as a tool to directly probe the function of the HPG axis and investigate disorders related to puberty and fertility.
